Job Brief

As a Forensic Analyst, you will play a crucial role in the criminal justice system by collecting, identifying, classifying, and analyzing physical evidence related to criminal investigations. Your expertise in forensic science will be pivotal in performing detailed tests on various materials, such as weapons, fibers, hair, and tissues, to determine their significance in ongoing investigations. Ideal candidates will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience in specialized forensic techniques. You may also be required to testify as an expert witness in court regarding evidence and crime laboratory methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and preserve physical evidence from crime scenes following established protocols.
  • Analyze various types of evidence, including biological, chemical, and physical samples.
  • Perform forensic examinations using advanced techniques in ballistics, fingerprint analysis, handwriting analysis, or biochemistry.
  • Document findings and maintain accurate records of all forensic analyses conducted.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports to communicate analysis results to law enforcement and legal personnel.
  • Testify in court as an expert witness regarding evidence analysis and laboratory procedures.
  • Stay updated on advancements in forensic science and law enforcement technologies.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and legal teams to provide forensic support for investigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in forensic science, chemistry, biology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in forensic analysis or a similar role within a laboratory setting.
  • Strong understanding of forensic methodologies and laboratory techniques.
  • Familiarity with evidence handling, chain of custody protocols, and legal standards.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for report writing and courtroom testimony.
  • Certifications in specialized areas of forensic analysis are a plus (e.g., crime scene investigation, toxicology).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
