Job Brief
As a Ferry Captain, you will command and oversee the operations of ferryboats and other water vessels, ensuring safe and efficient transportation for passengers and cargo across designated routes. This role requires extensive maritime knowledge, leadership skills, and a valid U.S. Coast Guard captain’s license. Successful Ferry Captains demonstrate excellent navigational abilities, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safety protocols while managing vessel operations.
Responsibilities
- Navigate ferryboats on established routes, ensuring timely departures and arrivals.
- Supervise crew members, providing guidance and maintaining operational standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of the vessel to ensure safety and compliance with maritime regulations.
- Implement safety protocols and emergency procedures to protect passengers and crew.
- Monitor weather and environmental conditions, adjusting operations as necessary.
- Maintain accurate logs of vessel activities, including passenger counts and operational issues.
- Engage with passengers, addressing inquiries and providing information about services.
- Collaborate with port authorities and other maritime professionals to coordinate operations.
Requirements
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard captain’s license (Master or Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels).
- Proven experience as a Ferry Captain or similar role in maritime operations.
- Strong knowledge of navigation, marine safety regulations, and emergency response procedures.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and make decisions under pressure.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform duties in varying weather conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent; further education in marine operations is a plus.
- Current first aid and CPR certification preferred.
