Job Brief

The Emergency Services Program Coordinator is responsible for planning, directing, and implementing disaster response and crisis management activities. This role focuses on disaster preparedness training, developing emergency plans and procedures for various emergencies, including natural disasters (hurricanes, floods, earthquakes), wartime scenarios, and technological incidents (nuclear power plant emergencies, hazardous materials spills). Candidates should possess strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, along with experience in emergency management or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate emergency response plans and procedures for various disaster scenarios.
  • Coordinate training programs and simulations to prepare staff and community members for emergency situations.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and vulnerabilities within the community.
  • Collaborate with local agencies, organizations, and stakeholders to enhance community resilience and response capabilities.
  • Monitor and analyze emerging trends in emergency management to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Manage emergency response operations during crises, ensuring effective communication and resource allocation.
  • Compile reports and documentation related to emergency incidents and training activities for review and assessment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public safety, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience in emergency services coordination or crisis management.
  • Certification in emergency management (e.g., Certified Emergency Manager – CEM, Associate Emergency Manager – AEM).
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal emergency management regulations and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in emergency management software and tools for planning and response.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions during emergencies.
