Job Brief
The Emergency Planning and Response Manager is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive emergency management plans to prepare for and respond to various crises, including natural disasters, technological emergencies, and wartime incidents. This role requires extensive experience in disaster response coordination, crisis management, and training development, along with strong leadership and analytical skills to effectively manage emergency situations and ensure community safety.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute emergency preparedness plans and response strategies for natural disasters, technological incidents, and other crisis scenarios.
- Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability analyses to identify potential threats and hazards.
- Provide training and educational programs on disaster preparedness and response for staff and community members.
- Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure collaborative emergency response efforts.
- Lead drills and simulations to test the effectiveness of emergency plans and improve response readiness.
- Monitor and evaluate emergency management operations to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
- Prepare and maintain documentation related to emergency plans, training sessions, and incident reports.
- Serve as a point of contact for emergency incidents and provide guidance during crises.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, public safety, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in emergency management, disaster response, or crisis management.
- Certifications such as Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) are highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of emergency management principles, practices, and relevant laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Proficiency in risk assessment tools and emergency management software.
- Ability to analyze complex situations and make sound decisions quickly.
- Experience in community engagement and public education initiatives related to emergency preparedness.
