Job Brief

The Early Childhood Special Educator is responsible for developing and implementing individualized educational programs for preschool-aged students with learning, emotional, or physical disabilities. This role requires expertise in teaching academic, social, and life skills to children with various special needs, including those with visual and hearing impairments, as well as intellectual disabilities. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, creativity, and a passion for fostering a supportive learning environment that promotes inclusion and adaptive learning strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of each student.
  • Create a nurturing classroom environment that encourages social interaction, emotional development, and cognitive growth.
  • Assess and monitor student progress, adjusting teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and other educators to promote student success and facilitate communication.
  • Utilize specialized teaching methods and assistive technologies to enhance learning experiences.
  • Provide training and support for classroom assistants and volunteers working with students with special needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress as required by local and federal regulations.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in early childhood special education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid state teaching certification in Special Education or Early Childhood Education.
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children with special needs in a classroom setting.
  • Strong understanding of child development theories and special education regulations.
  • Proficient in developing and implementing IEPs and utilizing assessment tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with families and other professionals.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive teaching strategies.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.
