Job Brief
As a Dormitory Counselor, you will play a crucial role in coordinating activities and supporting residents in secondary school and college dormitories or group homes. You will ensure a safe and positive living environment by fostering community engagement and addressing residents’ needs. Ideal candidates will have experience in residential life or social services, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to promoting the well-being of all residents.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and implement engaging activities for residents to enhance community living.
- Order necessary supplies and assess the need for maintenance, repairs, and furnishings in the dormitory.
- Maintain household records and manage room assignments for residents.
- Provide support to residents in problem-solving situations and refer them to appropriate counseling resources when needed.
- Monitor residents’ well-being and promote a positive living environment.
- Enforce dormitory policies and procedures to ensure a safe and respectful community.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and administrative staff regarding resident needs and concerns.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in social work, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in residential life, counseling, or social services is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with diverse populations.
- Ability to handle conflict and provide support in challenging situations.
- Basic understanding of mental health resources and crisis intervention techniques.
- Proficient in record-keeping and organizational skills for managing household operations.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
