Job Brief
As a Crime Lab Technician, you will play a vital role in the criminal justice system by collecting, identifying, classifying, and analyzing physical evidence related to criminal investigations. Responsibilities
- Collect and preserve physical evidence from crime scenes, ensuring proper chain of custody.
- Identify and classify various substances, including biological fluids, fibers, and chemicals.
- Perform laboratory tests on physical evidence, such as DNA analysis, toxicology screening, and firearms examination.
- Analyze and interpret laboratory results to determine relevance and significance to criminal investigations.
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory findings and prepare detailed reports for law enforcement agencies.
- Testify in court as an expert witness regarding evidence analysis and laboratory methods.
- Stay current with advancements in forensic science and crime lab technologies.
- Collaborate with law enforcement officials, attorneys, and other forensic specialists to support criminal investigations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in forensic science, chemistry, biology, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a forensic laboratory setting or crime lab environment.
- Strong knowledge of forensic analysis techniques, including DNA profiling, toxicology, and ballistics.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and safety protocols.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective testimony and reporting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification as a forensic scientist or related professional credential is a plus.
