Job Brief
As a Crab Fisher, you will be responsible for hunting, trapping, and gathering wild crabs and other aquatic species in various marine environments. This role requires a strong understanding of maritime safety, fishing techniques, and local regulations. Ideal candidates will possess experience in commercial fishing operations, excellent teamwork skills, and the ability to work in challenging weather conditions while handling specialized fishing equipment.
Responsibilities
- Utilize nets, traps, and other fishing equipment to catch crabs and other seafood.
- Ensure compliance with local and federal fishing regulations and sustainability practices.
- Maintain and repair fishing gear and equipment as needed.
- Haul and process the catch onto the vessel efficiently and safely.
- Collaborate with team members to optimize fishing strategies and improve catch rates.
- Monitor environmental conditions and adjust fishing methods accordingly.
- Document daily catches and maintain accurate records for reporting purposes.
- Participate in safety drills and adhere to all safety protocols while at sea.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; experience in commercial fishing preferred.
- Valid fishing license and knowledge of local fishery regulations.
- Proficient in the use of fishing gear and equipment, including traps and nets.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to work in harsh weather conditions.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of marine biology and aquatic ecosystems.
- Ability to operate small boats and navigate maritime environments.
- First Aid/CPR certification is a plus.
