Job Brief

As a Community Development Planner, you will play a crucial role in developing comprehensive plans and programs for land use and physical facilities across various jurisdictions, including towns, cities, counties, and metropolitan areas. Your expertise will guide sustainable development, enhance community engagement, and ensure compliance with zoning regulations and environmental standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, experience in urban planning, and effective communication abilities to collaborate with stakeholders and facilitate community-focused initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on land use, demographic trends, and community needs to inform planning decisions.
  • Develop and present comprehensive land use plans, zoning regulations, and development proposals.
  • Engage with community members, stakeholders, and government officials to gather input and support for development projects.
  • Evaluate and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to urban planning and development.
  • Monitor project implementation, assess outcomes, and recommend adjustments to improve community development strategies.
  • Prepare reports, maps, and presentations for public meetings and planning commissions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, and environmental specialists, to create integrated development solutions.
  • Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in community planning and development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience (3+ years) in community development planning or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of zoning laws, land use regulations, and environmental policies.
  • Proficiency in GIS software and other planning tools to analyze spatial data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with community outreach and public participation strategies.
  • Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is a plus.
