Job Brief

As a Commercial Fisher, you will engage in the hunting, trapping, and gathering of wild aquatic animals and plants. Your primary responsibilities will include operating fishing vessels, utilizing nets and traps, and efficiently handling and processing the catch. Ideal candidates will possess a strong understanding of marine ecosystems, fishing techniques, and safety practices, along with relevant experience in commercial fishing or aquaculture.

Responsibilities

  • Operate fishing vessels and equipment to catch aquatic species effectively and sustainably.
  • Utilize various fishing techniques including netting, trapping, and line fishing to maximize catch yield.
  • Monitor and maintain fishing gear, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Inspect and sort catch, assessing quality and preparing for transport or processing.
  • Document daily catch statistics and report on fishing conditions and trends.
  • Collaborate with team members to optimize fishing operations and improve efficiency.
  • Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations regarding fishing practices and conservation efforts.
  • Participate in routine maintenance of vessels and equipment to ensure safe and effective operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications in fishing or marine safety preferred.
  • Proven experience in commercial fishing or aquaculture operations.
  • Strong knowledge of marine biology, aquatic ecosystems, and sustainable fishing practices.
  • Ability to operate and maintain fishing vessels and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Excellent physical stamina and ability to perform strenuous tasks in varying weather conditions.
