Job Brief
The Collections and Archives Director plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing an institution’s collections, which may include artwork, historical artifacts, collectibles, or scientific specimens. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic plans for the acquisition, preservation, and exhibition of collections.
- Manage collection inventories and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards in handling artifacts.
- Oversee the cataloging and digitization of collections to improve accessibility for research and public use.
- Conduct research to support educational programs, exhibitions, and public outreach initiatives.
- Collaborate with curators, educators, and researchers to enhance the institution’s educational offerings.
- Supervise staff and volunteers involved in collection management and archival processes.
- Develop and manage budgets related to collections and archives programs.
- Engage with the community and stakeholders to promote the institution’s collections and resources.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Library Science, Museum Studies, Archival Science, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in collections management or archival administration.
- Strong knowledge of preservation techniques, archival standards, and collection policies.
- Proficient in digital asset management systems and collection management software.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and build relationships with external partners.
- Experience in grant writing and fundraising for collections initiatives is a plus.
