Job Brief
As a Coastal Tug Mate, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of tugboats and other water vessels. Your responsibilities will include commanding vessel operations, assisting in navigation and maneuvering, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, relevant marine experience, and a valid U.S. Coast Guard license, making you an essential part of our maritime team.
Responsibilities
- Command and supervise operations of tugboats and ferryboats during maritime transport.
- Assist in the navigation and maneuvering of vessels in coastal waters.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and maritime laws.
- Conduct regular maintenance checks and repairs on vessels to ensure safe operations.
- Train and mentor crew members in best practices for vessel handling and safety protocols.
- Coordinate with port authorities and other maritime personnel to facilitate smooth docking and undocking procedures.
- Monitor weather conditions and adjust vessel operations accordingly to ensure safety.
- Maintain accurate logs of vessel operations, including crew activities and navigation details.
Requirements
- Valid U.S. Coast Guard license for operating tugboats and similar vessels.
- Proven experience in maritime operations, preferably as a tug mate or in a related role.
- Strong knowledge of navigational charts, maritime regulations, and safety protocols.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills for effective crew management.
- Ability to perform physical tasks and work in varying weather conditions.
- Familiarity with vessel maintenance procedures and marine engineering principles.
- First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
