Job Brief

The Cleaning and Maintenance Worker plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and hygienic environment by maintaining buildings in clean and orderly condition. This position involves performing heavy cleaning duties such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Ideal candidates will have experience in routine maintenance activities, knowledge of cleaning techniques, and the ability to notify management of repair needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough cleaning of floors, carpets, and upholstery using appropriate equipment and cleaning agents.
  • Wash walls, windows, and fixtures to ensure a pristine appearance throughout the facility.
  • Remove rubbish and waste from designated areas, ensuring proper disposal procedures are followed.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including tending to furnaces and boilers, and reporting any malfunctions.
  • Maintain cleanliness of outdoor areas by shoveling snow, clearing debris, and ensuring pathways are safe.
  • Follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Assist in inventory management of cleaning supplies and equipment, notifying management of low stock levels.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures while performing assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in cleaning or maintenance is a plus.
  • Proven experience in janitorial or maintenance roles, with a strong focus on cleanliness and safety.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies, and the ability to handle them safely.
  • Basic understanding of facility maintenance procedures and equipment operation.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions effectively.
  • Physical stamina and strength to perform heavy lifting and cleaning tasks.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required for maintenance tasks involving transportation.
