Job Brief

As a Chicken Handler, you will be responsible for the care and management of poultry, focusing on ensuring their health and productivity. This role requires hands-on experience with animal husbandry practices, including feeding, watering, and maintaining proper living conditions for chickens. Ideal candidates possess a strong understanding of animal welfare and have experience in livestock handling, particularly in poultry farming environments.

Responsibilities

  • Feed, water, and care for chickens and other poultry to promote optimal health and production.
  • Monitor the health of birds, identifying signs of illness or distress and addressing any issues promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal health, feeding schedules, and production metrics.
  • Assist in the egg collection process, ensuring proper handling and storage to maintain quality.
  • Implement biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreaks within the flock.
  • Clean and maintain poultry housing areas, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by veterinary staff.
  • Support breeding and hatching processes as needed, including monitoring incubation conditions.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in poultry handling or animal husbandry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of biosecurity practices and animal welfare standards.
  • Strong observational skills to assess animal health and behavior.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving animals.
  • Familiarity with poultry feeding and care techniques.
  • Valid certification in animal handling or related fields is a plus.
