Job Brief
As a Chicken Handler, you will be responsible for the care and management of poultry, focusing on ensuring their health and productivity. This role requires hands-on experience with animal husbandry practices, including feeding, watering, and maintaining proper living conditions for chickens. Ideal candidates possess a strong understanding of animal welfare and have experience in livestock handling, particularly in poultry farming environments.
Responsibilities
- Feed, water, and care for chickens and other poultry to promote optimal health and production.
- Monitor the health of birds, identifying signs of illness or distress and addressing any issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, feeding schedules, and production metrics.
- Assist in the egg collection process, ensuring proper handling and storage to maintain quality.
- Implement biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreaks within the flock.
- Clean and maintain poultry housing areas, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
- Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by veterinary staff.
- Support breeding and hatching processes as needed, including monitoring incubation conditions.
Requirements
- Previous experience in poultry handling or animal husbandry is preferred.
- Knowledge of biosecurity practices and animal welfare standards.
- Strong observational skills to assess animal health and behavior.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving animals.
- Familiarity with poultry feeding and care techniques.
- Valid certification in animal handling or related fields is a plus.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and report on animal conditions.
