Job Brief
As a Cattle Brander, you will play a vital role in the management and care of livestock on farms, ranches, or open ranges. Your primary responsibilities will include branding cattle and other livestock, as well as ensuring their health and welfare through daily tasks such as feeding, watering, and monitoring for signs of disease or injury. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with livestock handling, a strong understanding of animal husbandry practices, and the ability to work in diverse outdoor environments.
Responsibilities
- Brand cattle and other livestock to identify ownership and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Feed, water, and care for livestock, including cattle, sheep, goats, and horses.
- Monitor animal health by examining for signs of disease or injury and maintaining accurate health records.
- Assist in the birthing process and provide care to newborn animals as needed.
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and insecticides to maintain animal health.
- Assist in herding, grazing, and loading livestock for transport.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of animal housing areas to promote animal welfare.
- Collaborate with veterinarians and other staff on health assessments and treatments.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in animal husbandry or veterinary technology preferred.
- Proven experience in livestock handling and care, particularly with cattle.
- Strong knowledge of animal health, behavior, and welfare standards.
- Ability to operate and maintain livestock handling equipment safely.
- Strong physical stamina and capability to work in varying weather conditions.
- Excellent communication skills for collaboration and reporting.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate farm vehicles is a plus.
