Job Brief
As a Cargo Agent, you will play a pivotal role in the logistics and transportation industry, expediting and routing the movement of incoming and outgoing cargo and freight shipments. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, as you will take orders from customers, arrange pickups, and coordinate deliveries to loading platforms. A successful Cargo Agent must be detail-oriented, possess a thorough understanding of shipping regulations, and have experience with bills of lading and tariffs.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and expedite the movement of cargo and freight shipments across airline, train, and trucking terminals.
- Take customer orders and arrange for timely pickup and delivery of freight and cargo.
- Prepare and examine bills of lading to determine shipping charges and applicable tariffs.
- Maintain accurate records of cargo transactions and shipments.
- Communicate with customers regarding shipment status and any potential delays.
- Ensure compliance with shipping regulations and safety standards.
- Collaborate with warehouse staff to ensure efficient loading and unloading of cargo.
- Utilize tracking software and tools to monitor shipment progress and resolve issues.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in logistics or supply chain management is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Cargo Agent or in a similar logistics role.
- Strong knowledge of shipping regulations, tariffs, and customs compliance.
- Proficiency in using cargo management software and tracking systems.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to manage multiple shipments.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with clients and vendors.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure effectively.
