Job Brief
The Barge Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of engines, boilers, and deck machinery aboard ships. Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate engineering crew activities to ensure safe operation of all machinery and equipment aboard the barge.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on engines, boilers, and auxiliary systems.
- Monitor performance metrics and implement corrective actions as necessary to improve operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards for marine operations.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for mechanical and electrical failures, providing immediate solutions to minimize downtime.
- Manage inventory of spare parts and materials, ensuring availability for maintenance and repairs.
- Document maintenance activities and prepare reports for management review.
- Train and mentor junior engineering staff in operational procedures and safety practices.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Barge Engineer or similar role in marine engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of marine engines, boilers, deck machinery, and electrical systems.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills to manage a diverse engineering team.
- Relevant certifications such as STCW, USCG licenses, or equivalent qualifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure in challenging environments.
- Familiarity with industry regulations and safety standards, including environmental compliance.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for reporting and team collaboration.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
