Job Brief
As an Animal Shelter Worker, you will play a vital role in providing compassionate care for a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, birds, and other shelter residents. Your primary responsibilities will include feeding, grooming, exercising, and ensuring the overall well-being of the animals under your care. Responsibilities
- Feed and provide fresh water to animals, ensuring proper dietary needs are met.
- Groom and bathe animals to maintain hygiene and promote health.
- Exercise and socialize animals to enhance their physical and emotional well-being.
- Keep accurate records of animal care, including feedings, treatments, and intake/discharge information.
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain animal living areas, including cages, pens, and tanks.
- Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any concerns to veterinary staff.
- Assist in the adoption process by providing guidance to potential pet owners.
- Work collaboratively with other animal care staff and volunteers to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in animal care or related fields is a plus.
- Previous experience in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, or similar environment preferred.
- Strong knowledge of animal behavior and basic animal care practices.
- Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately, including understanding breed-specific needs.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with staff, volunteers, and the public.
- Basic record-keeping skills and familiarity with animal care software is beneficial.
- Physical stamina to perform tasks that require bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
