Job Brief
As an Animal Control Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and welfare of animals within the community. This position involves investigating reports of animal mistreatment, controlling abandoned or dangerous animals, and enforcing local animal control ordinances. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of animal behavior, excellent communication skills, and experience in handling diverse animal species.
Responsibilities
- Respond to calls regarding abandoned, dangerous, or mistreated animals.
- Conduct investigations and gather evidence related to animal cruelty cases.
- Capture and transport stray, injured, or dangerous animals to appropriate facilities.
- Educate the public on responsible pet ownership and animal welfare laws.
- Maintain detailed records of animal control activities, including reports and case documentation.
- Collaborate with local shelters, veterinarians, and law enforcement agencies.
- Participate in community outreach programs to promote animal safety and adoption.
- Administer first aid and care for injured animals when necessary.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in animal care or law enforcement preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Certification in animal control or humane education is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of animal behavior, safety practices, and local animal laws.
- Ability to work independently and manage stressful situations effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for public interaction.
- Physical ability to handle various animal species safely.
- Experience in animal handling and care is highly desirable.
