Job Brief
As a Zookeeper, you will be responsible for the daily care and management of a diverse range of animals in a zoo or similar environment. This role requires a strong commitment to animal welfare and knowledge of various species. You will engage in tasks such as feeding, grooming, and exercising animals, while also maintaining clean and safe habitats. Ideal candidates will have experience working with animals and possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
- Feed, water, and provide daily care for animals to ensure their well-being.
- Groom and bathe animals as necessary to promote hygiene and health.
- Monitor animal behavior and health, reporting any concerns to veterinary staff.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of animal enclosures, including cleaning and disinfecting cages and tanks.
- Keep accurate records of animal diets, treatments, and health assessments.
- Engage with visitors to educate them about the animals and conservation efforts.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of enrichment activities for animals.
- Collaborate with a team to ensure a safe and secure environment for both animals and staff.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in animal science or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience working with animals in a zoo, wildlife park, or similar setting.
- Knowledge of animal behavior, husbandry, and health care practices.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and cleaning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with the public.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- CPR and First Aid certification for animals is a plus.
- Basic computer skills for maintaining records and documentation.
