Job Brief

As a Wine Steward, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the dining experience by expertly managing the wine service in a restaurant or dining establishment. You will be responsible for taking orders and serving food and beverages to patrons at their tables while providing knowledgeable recommendations on wine pairings. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication skills, a passion for fine wines, and previous experience in a food and beverage service environment.

Responsibilities

  • Take and process customer orders for food and beverages, ensuring accurate delivery to tables.
  • Provide exceptional wine service, including wine selection, pairing recommendations, and serving techniques.
  • Maintain an extensive knowledge of the wine list, including regional varieties, vintages, and tasting notes.
  • Assist in creating and updating the wine menu to reflect seasonal offerings and customer preferences.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations regarding the service of alcohol and food.
  • Engage with guests to provide a memorable dining experience through attentive service and wine expertise.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure seamless service and timely delivery of food and beverage orders.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the wine service area and dining space.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Wine Steward or in a similar role within the food and beverage industry.
  • Strong knowledge of wines, including varietals, regions, and food pairings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective customer service.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Certification in sommelier training or wine education is preferred.
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale systems and restaurant management software.
  • Must be of legal drinking age and possess a valid food handler’s permit.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the dining establishment.
