Job Brief
The Underground Jumbo Driller is responsible for operating drilling equipment in underground mining operations to create precise holes for blasting and ore extraction. Responsibilities
- Operate underground jumbo drilling machines to create drill holes for blasting and ore extraction.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections and routine maintenance on drilling equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with engineering and mining teams to plan drilling patterns and optimize drilling operations.
- Monitor drilling progress and make adjustments as necessary to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Adhere to safety regulations and operational procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
- Document drilling activities and report on production metrics to supervisors.
- Assist in training new operators on safe and effective use of drilling equipment.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss project progress and address operational challenges.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training in mining operations is preferred.
- Proven experience as a jumbo driller or similar role in underground mining.
- Strong understanding of drilling techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maps, and drilling plans.
- Valid operator’s license and any required certifications (e.g., MSHA certification).
- Excellent physical stamina and ability to work in confined spaces and adverse conditions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
