Job Brief

As a Special Education Classroom Aide, you will provide essential support to teachers and students in preschool, elementary, middle, or secondary educational settings. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting in the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs), fostering academic and social skills, and ensuring a conducive learning environment for students with learning, emotional, or physical disabilities. The ideal candidate should possess strong communication skills, patience, and a passion for working with diverse learners.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher in developing and implementing tailored educational plans for students with disabilities.
  • Provide one-on-one and group support to students, facilitating academic engagement and participation.
  • Monitor and document student progress, reporting observations to the teacher to inform instructional strategies.
  • Support students with daily living skills and behavioral management in the classroom setting.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student interaction and teamwork.
  • Assist with classroom organization, preparation of materials, and maintenance of a clean learning space.
  • Collaborate with other educational staff and specialists to promote effective teaching practices.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in special education or related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with children with special needs in an educational setting.
  • Understanding of individualized education programs (IEPs) and special education laws.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Ability to manage classroom behavior and implement behavioral intervention strategies.
  • Basic knowledge of adaptive technologies and instructional materials for special education.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
  • Willingness to undergo background checks and additional training as required.
