Job Brief
As a Shipfitter, you will play a critical role in the construction and maintenance of marine vessels by accurately laying out reference points and dimensions on metal or plastic stock. This position requires a strong understanding of shipbuilding techniques, attention to detail, and the ability to read blueprints. The ideal candidate will have experience in shipfitting or a related field and possess essential skills in welding, fabrication, and assembly of ship structures.
Responsibilities
- Lay out reference points and dimensions on metal and plastic workpieces, including sheets, plates, tubes, and structural shapes.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements.
- Cut, shape, and assemble metal and plastic components according to design specifications.
- Collaborate with engineers and other tradespeople to ensure accurate installation of fixtures and systems.
- Conduct inspections and quality checks on fabricated components to meet safety and industry standards.
- Utilize hand and power tools effectively to fit and assemble structures and components.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
- Assist in troubleshooting and repairing ship components as necessary.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in welding or fabrication preferred.
- Proven experience as a Shipfitter or in a related role within the marine industry.
- Strong knowledge of shipbuilding practices and metalworking techniques.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience with hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and precision in measurements and assembly.
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively.
- Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy materials and work in various environments.
