Job Brief
The Ship Unloader is responsible for efficiently loading and unloading chemicals and bulk solids, including coal, sand, and grain, from tank cars, trucks, or ships using specialized material moving equipment. This role requires attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols while performing duties related to product shipment. Ideal candidates will possess prior experience in material handling and demonstrate proficiency in operating equipment safely and effectively.
Responsibilities
- Operate material moving equipment, including conveyors, cranes, and forklifts, to load and unload bulk materials.
- Inspect and maintain unloading equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
- Gauge or sample shipping tanks to assess the quantity and quality of materials.
- Test shipping tanks for leaks and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Record and document shipping and receiving activities accurately for inventory management purposes.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate loading and unloading schedules efficiently.
- Follow safety regulations and best practices to minimize risks and enhance workplace safety.
- Assist in other warehouse operations as needed, including packaging and labeling of products.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in material handling or safety are a plus.
- Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in a shipping, warehouse, or industrial environment.
- Strong familiarity with material moving equipment, including forklifts and cranes.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices related to bulk material handling.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy objects and standing for long periods.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with team members and supervisors effectively.
