Job Brief
The Winch Derrick Operator is responsible for operating and tending hoists or winches to lift and pull loads using power-operated cable equipment. This role requires a skilled operator with experience in heavy machinery, ensuring safety protocols are adhered to while performing lifting and rigging tasks. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in various environments, including construction sites and industrial settings.
Responsibilities
- Operate winches and hoists to securely lift, lower, and move heavy loads according to safety specifications.
- Inspect and maintain winch equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety compliance.
- Collaborate with team members to plan and execute lifting operations effectively.
- Read and interpret load charts and blueprints to determine lift requirements.
- Monitor the load during lifting operations to ensure stability and safety.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Document daily activities and equipment maintenance in compliance with company policies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in rigging or heavy equipment operation preferred.
- Proven experience as a Winch Derrick Operator or in a similar role within the construction or industrial sector.
- Strong knowledge of hoisting and rigging techniques, safety standards, and equipment operation.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy loads, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills for effective collaboration on job sites.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate forklifts and other heavy machinery is a plus.
- Certification in crane operation or rigging is highly desirable.
