Job Brief
As a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, you will plan, direct, and coordinate medically-approved recreation programs to support the physical and emotional well-being of patients in various healthcare settings, including hospitals and nursing homes. You will assess patient conditions and recommend suitable recreational activities tailored to individual needs. Responsibilities
- Design and implement therapeutic recreation programs that enhance patients’ physical, social, and emotional health.
- Assess individual patient needs and abilities to recommend appropriate recreational activities.
- Facilitate a variety of activities, including sports, crafts, social events, and trips, to promote patient engagement.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to integrate recreation therapy into patient care plans.
- Monitor patient progress and adapt programs as needed to ensure maximum benefit and participation.
- Educate patients and families about the benefits of therapeutic recreation as part of the rehabilitation process.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient participation and progress in recreational activities.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards related to recreational therapy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Management, or a related field.
- Current certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred.
- Strong understanding of recreational therapy principles and practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective patient interaction.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations and varying levels of ability.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of safety and emergency procedures within healthcare settings.
