Job Brief
The Stenocaptioner is responsible for capturing, storing, retrieving, and transcribing real-time spoken language and legal proceedings using advanced computerized stenographic captioning equipment. Responsibilities
- Operate computerized stenographic captioning equipment to produce accurate real-time captions for live broadcasts and recorded events.
- Transcribe pretrial and trial proceedings verbatim, ensuring clarity and precision in all documentation.
- Work collaboratively with legal professionals and production teams to ensure seamless communication access for hearing-impaired audiences.
- Maintain and update captioning software and equipment to optimize performance and functionality.
- Review and edit transcriptions for accuracy, grammar, and compliance with industry standards.
- Adhere to confidentiality and ethical standards when handling sensitive legal or broadcast information.
- Stay updated on advancements in captioning technology and best practices within the industry.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in stenography or captioning preferred.
- Proven experience as a stenocaptioner or in a similar role, preferably in a legal or broadcast environment.
- Proficient in the use of computerized stenographic equipment and captioning software.
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.
- Excellent listening, typing, and communication skills with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in fast-paced environments.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards and regulations related to captioning.
