We came here once before with a friend and were very impressed by its jazzy and classic atmosphere. So we decided to go back again. And one day, a $25 coupon showed up in our mail. The good part is that the coupon does not restrict you to go on weekdays only. We reserved seats for a Saturday evening. We were surprised, in a very good way, about the seating, an elevated one situated at the side of the restaurant, enabling us a strategic high point to look over the whole crowds and the great interior decorations. We love the whole thing so far.
Now let’s talk about the food. Our first appetizer is from its daily special menu: Baked Green Tomatoes. It is untamed and fresh to bite through. The widgets are crunchy and solid but juicy without the tar taste. Dipped into the red pepper sauce with goat cheese fondue and candied pecan, oh, it’s one of the best southern dishes you should try. We also ordered the Crab Crusted Stuffed Shrimp roasted with garlic breadcrumbs. Of course it is invasively Italian.
This place is famous for Steaks and Chops. I was impressed with its Filet Mignon last time. They also offer Roumanian Skit Steak, Petite Filet Mignon, Peppercorn Crusted Filet, New York Strip, as well as Lamb Chops and Pork Chops. But we decided to try out their fish menu.
You must not skip the Swordfish “London Broil”. The white flakes stand out like cloves, making you can’t help thinking about peeling them apart with your digits. Well, I didn’t of course. Texture is tender and immersed with the flavor of oven roasted tomatoes and red onions. I paired the fish with favored roasted vegetables, including zucchini, sweet red bell peppers. All of them are non-starchy but freshly prepared.
Last but not the least, you must order a mixed drink if your health allows. My Berry Cherry Mojito ($7.50, Cruzan Black Cherry Rum with Raspberry syrup, line juice and mint of course) was sharp after the first sip as it were crystallizing around my head in a slow motion. You may also want to try a Torched Cherry Limeade (Bacardi Torched Cherry Rum, with line juice, Sprite and Grenadine) at $9.50. Don’t get too much, they are very easy to drink but wildly strong.
This is a place to experience the great steak meals, but it also offers plenty of other options for fish and vegetarian meal, plus pizza. Have a drink with friends enjoying the classical jazz in the background. Equally suitable for a romance night or a birthday party. ….We are thinking about to reserve a table for a Thanksgiving dinner to treat our visiting relatives, if the Wildfire opens that evening.
Update: Too bad this excellent restaurant closed.
