Warning: Possible Jim Crow laws still in effect. This is a weird place.
I called and asked if they are able to build brake lines. The Representative said with confidence, yes, we can get that done.
When I arrived, there was one customer ahead getting a hose built. Shortly after, two other customers arrived behind me.
The experience at the counter was nothing short of unnecessary overly complicated foolery:
The Representative at the counter: Leave the brake lines and I’ll call you with a quote.
Me: I don’t mind waiting.
The Representative: I need to take care of the other two customers behind you first and that may take an hour.
Me: I’m at the front of the line; how do I now slip to the back of the line? But in either case I don’t mind and will wait.
The Representative: Well, if other people walk in then you’ll have to wait behind them. As he claims, he only does quotes on his spare time.
Me: So, when is your spare time? Because technically all customers come in for a “quote,” resulting in you building the product, as was the customer who was ahead of me that got his hose built.
The Representative: I don’t know when I’ll have spare time and mention something about policy.
Me: Sounds like a self-devised senseless “policy” with no solution.
With that I decided to talk to the boss:
The boss seemed genuinely concerned and mentioned that I should come back later to see a different Representative and ensured me that the other employee would take care of the brake lines.
I decided to go to another business, which got the two brake lines done in about 10 minutes without any excessive explanatory nonsense.
My decision to not go back to get the brake lines done also weighed on the fact that this was my second awkward encounter with that employee. As just months before I tried getting a compressor line built and was turned away with a similar overly complicated nonsense explanation.
