Make sure to understand this is a construction only staffing company. If offered a IT/tech position, understand it’s very low level (Layer 1 at best). I hired on being told they had many jobs in my area for my technical skills. I made it clear I needed local work and as close to a normal 8 to 5 job as possible because I had become a full time single parent recently and had to give up my high pay career that required full time travel. Was told that was no problem. I asked about working conditions because something was tell me this was more of a rough neck type job. I was told some hot and some AC and all inside work. I took that as I might have to go into a hot room or ceiling for a hour or two. I felt assured after the interview that this was a good job for me and my initial feeling was incorrect.
Once making it to the end client and job site I found out my initial feeling was correct. I was told the job was actually 10 hour days 6 days a week but would only last 2 months, they just needed to get this project completed. Then I find out all projects are 60 hour weeks. The some hot, some AC work environment really meant you will be in over 100 degree heat 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. To make that worst, if you are seen taking a break to cool down, you will be sent home.
I was not there long, but I seen no tech work, all construction. The Network techs/data team was installing cable trays. A few people was splicing fiber but no real tech work. Nothing on my resume said I did construction work so I don’t know why I was contacted for the job to start with.
I got heat exhaustion a few hours in. The team I was working with took me to a fire exit door to let me get fresh air and cool down. Was there less than 3 minutes before my entire group was told to clock out and go home. No supervisor ever asked if I was ok. The next morning meeting everyone was told if they are seen taking a break, their badge will be taken onsite, no question asked. I talked directly with the supervisor after the meeting and told him I don’t think I can work in that heat without breaks. He told me it would be best if I clock out and go home, because I would be fired if I took a break. If I left then, I could be placed on a cooler job site. That also turned out the be a lie. I was let go.
This company is mainly looking for people that can be used and abused. Anyone with any technical skills would not work here. It is a very hard manual labor work environment best for those without much education or opportunities.
