Monticello was a wonderful gem of a place. The tour guides were awesome and everything was timed perfectly from the interior tour to the garden tour. You can explore the grounds, hike, or you can take the shuttle. You’ll find Jefferson’s grave and all sorts of historical documents and some of Jefferson’s belongings. You can explore the cellars, go to the museum, or go to the gift shop which has a nice ornament we got. When the weather is decent, this is a must-stop.

Awesome behind the scenes tour. Tour guide was good. A little hard to understand at times. But what I did understand was great. We felt rushed throughout the tour not by our guide but the tour guide behind us. We barely finished looking at one of the rooms and we were shuffled out. I think they should allow more time between tours… more than five minutes! We also took the garden tour and the slavery tour. Louie was great on the slavery tour. Great stories and easy to understand and follow.
The premade sandwiches were little to be desired. Very bland and way overpriced. But I guess that’s the price you pay for convenience 🤷

Really fun experience. My students and I visited on a trip. We all left feeling very conflicted. Clearly, Jefferson was a brilliant man with revolutionary ideas. His house is a museum that showcases his brilliance. His ideas of freedom were what we want today – but he owned slaves, even his own children. This was eye opening for my students. That aside, I highly recommend a visit to Monticello. What a great learning experience – and it’s breathtakingly beautiful!
