I applied for a role on LinkedIn for a housing specialist position at a local non-profit. I would’ve helped families transition out of homelessness and fine safe, secure shelter. The role was perfect for me, used all my strengths, was applicable to my degree, and had decent pay and benefits. Much to my surprise, I hear back from this agency working as their middle man. I had a hunch that it was just another scummy temp agency, but I decided to keep an open mind. They arranged an interview with the non-profit and were even helpful with rescheduling when I had a severe family emergency pop up. The interview went really well and they were eager to get back to me. After putting all that time and effort into preparing for this interview and anticipating a positive outcome , TalentRetriever calls me back saying that they’d rather have me work for the company as a BUS MONITOR. A position that only pays $21 an hour (housing specialist paid around $50k/year). A position that puts my bachelors degree to waste. A position I never asked to be considered for. I felt humiliated and embarrassed. They blatantly ignored my skills, my desired salary, and most importantly, the job I actually applied for just to attempt to swindle me as if I’m stupid. With poverty wages like those, I’d end up relying on the nonprofit’s housing services rather than providing them for a living. They proved that they’re just another sketchy, money hungry temp agency that doesn’t care about their applicants. Don’t ever trust this agency or any recruiting agency for that matter. STAY FAR AWAY!!
