My son has been part of water polo for weeks. We go at least three times a week every week. Today there was a party and end of year sports celebration. They receieved certificates and medals. I understand mistakes happen but my son is the only black child on the team. He didn’t receive a medal or a certificate during the ceremony. They literally forgot he was there. I’m there at least theee times a week with my son watching him swim. We spoke up. I have this on video and she said well at least he has a medal because the certificates are for participation. I told her he had been participating and coming to work outs. How did they forget the only black kid on the team? Now I feel like we will be kept out of this sport because of my complaint. But because my son likes it there we will complain and go back. Every year as this is our community pool. They then said he would get a certificate but it wasn’t announced card like all of the other team mates. His medal was announced but the certificate was just given to him with minimal apologies from one of the coaches. The other coach was apologetic but the coach that signs the certificate didn’t seem to really care and it seemed like she doubted his participation and he was there all the time. I have video to prove this and will be taking it up with a higher authority. This cannot happen again to the only black child, with amazing swim skills. It made us cry.

Although we need sport complexes in the community, this one is not the best for hours and openings so that the community can have more opportunities to play sports. The track is not easily accessible so sometimes kids hop in, and basketball is only on certain days for 2-3 hours. If we want kids to be active, we better have better operations.

Very very impressive park/complex with all the amenities you could imagine. They also have an amazing pool with nice locker room space. The staff at the recreation center were very helpful and we’re able to assist me with any questions or concerns we had regarding the park and programs they offer. One of the best parks in the city with everything you could ask for.
