Born in 1994, SEEDS (Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society) had one ultimate goal: protecting the lives and livelihoods of people exposed to disasters. Today, we persist along the same path, continuing to focus on integrating locally based approached into each of our programs. Behind this work lies a diverse SEEDS team consisting of young professionals from various development- related fields. It is governed and advised by a board of eminent academicians and practitioners from international organisations. Over the years, this team of committed individuals, has reached out to families affected by earthquakes, floods and cyclones; restored schools and homes; and has invariably put its faith in education to build long term resilience of the communities. SEEDS continues to advocate for and work with communities across Asia to build a safer and more sustainable world. Dr. V. K. Sharma, President. He is a Professor of Disaster Management & Convener of the Training Advisory Committee at the Indian Institute of Public Administration (since 2006). Formerly, he was the Chief of Party, Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER), a USAID funded program for six Asian Countries. Dr. Manu Gupta, Vice President. He is the co-founder and director of SEEDS. His 19 years of experience in the sector covers national and regional advocacy, mobilization of community led efforts in recovery and risk reduction, climate change adaptation and emerging issues including humanitarian partnership, accountability and community resilience. He holds a doctorate degree in community based disaster management. He completed his Masters in Urban Planning and the Bachelor’s degree in Physical Planning. He currently serves as the Chair of the Asian Disaster Risk Reduction and Response Network, an active network of national NGOs from over 17 countries in Asia. He is part of the Steering Committee of the Global Network of CSOs for Disaster Reduction. He is also the Global Advisor for UN-ISDR on the Resilient Cities Campaign. Rehabilitation of remote areas affected by natural disasters requires commitment and grit. And above all courage.
