Saved me loads of time and stress by interviewing me to discover my needs and wants then providing three great referrals. I met with each and picked the right fit—modality, personality, location, office environment, insurance accepted, even parking can make a difference in the comfort and efficacy of therapeutic experience. If none had worked out they give more referrals. Fee was about cost of one therapy session and I was able to try before “buying” three therapists.

I knew that I needed to find a therapist, but I had no idea where to begin. Fortunately, a friend recommended the Women’s Therapy Referral Service. My first meeting with Judy, the referral coordinator, not only illuminated the type of therapist that might best suit me, but helped me articulate the things in my life that have led me to seek therapy, and was really a therapy session all in itself. Judy is also wonderful to talk to and put me at ease 🙂 Being able to ask for therapists within my insurance network was incredibly helpful – no worries of finding the perfect therapist and then discovering I’d have to pay out of pocket. I was also able to request therapists that were within a healthy walk of my home, which is crucial as Seattle traffic becomes increasingly impossible. I was recommended three excellent therapists and had engaging meetings with all three of them, and feel confident in my final choice. The process was actually more difficult than I thought it would be – I saw the benefits of each therapist clearly, and making the ultimate pick took some reflection. The entire process showed me more about myself and my own reaction to therapy than I’ve gained from past periods of therapy in my life. I’ve now had my first “real” session with my therapist and I am truly excited to work with her. If you do complete the initial referral session and are feeling overwhelmed, I urge you to call all three therapists immediately and schedule your appointments (mine were each 2-3 days apart). The three interview sessions are included in the initial fee. The service is remarkably affordable, especially considering all the good it has already done for my life and my mental health. I highly recommend this option for anyone in the Seattle area feeling uncertain about how to start therapy. If you’re struggling to take the first step, make WTRS the first step. It’s as simple as that.

After finally deciding to get serious about my mental health, I was hopeful this would help connect me with a therapist. Not only was I not connected with any therapist, but I was told my issues were beyond the scope of a counselor. I work in social work and am very familiar with mental health services. Women’s Therapy Referral Service told me none of their therapists “help develop tools for my mental health toolbox.” I literally left the office sobbing and feeling like I was beyond help. I still had to pay – I received zero referrals, and had someone make me feel even worse about my mental health challenges. I agree with other reviewers that you would be better Googling therapists.
