I was placed here back in 1996, the staff abused me when I was 3 and pulled most of my teeth out for trying to say something about what they were doing. This place is vile and inhumane. Needs to be shut down ASAP

I was at this facility when I was 8, 1998 time frame. I vividly remembering going to the nurse area and them trying to force a Hepatitis shot. I had just received my shots and remember throwing the apple I was holding across the room in anger for not being listened to. The staff finally looked at my records (not sure how) but they found out I had indeed recently been vaccinated. Looking back to the experience it was as if I was a dog in the pound getting vaccinated in order to be housed… weird. Then to be shuffled to my “room” to see a bag of fresh blue sweatsuit, tube socks, and white cloth shoes, definitely felt isolated and locked up. On the other hand, the staff at the time were nice enough, I could go to school (which I loved), and ate enough. Such an interesting time and am thankful to have gotten far away from that life.

I was in there when it had just been built or shortly after. I remember being in the coke a cola house. Last house before the gym. I was in New Alternatives and it was a pit stop twice for me. I honestly out of every foster home or group home and lockdown facility NA6-16. It truly was a relief to go there instead of Hillcrest. The school was nice, even the cafeteria had good food. The gym and game room was my favorite. They used to let you pick out something from the Disney room when you left. That was in 92-94. The only thing negative I would have to say is they allowed New Haven to recruit kids and interview them for slots in their group homes. I was in New Haven and that place was horrible. So I told every kid that walked up to their table to walk away. I was never mistreated at Polinsky or even saw many fights. Some kids would hit the staff and the sheriffs department would take them to juvenile hall. By reading some of the other reviews those kids haven’t been to the places I was in. Polinsky was a good memory for me Vs all the nightmares I have from New Alternatives and New Haven.
