As a temp under Premier staffing temporary agency, I was laid off by a company they sent me to. The owner of Premier staffing told me that during that time I would be compensated for a certain number of weeks, and “not to worry.” I contacted her 2 weeks later to find that she had decided to renege on her offer, citing costs, but decided to not tell me about it. She told me to go ahead and apply for unemployment, telling me she found out she didn’t have enough funds to follow through on what she said. She said she had found out earlier in the week, but had “forgotten ” to call me about it. This was the Thursday before a holiday weekend and the unemployment office would be closed the next day. When I was finally able to file for unemployment, I was already more than 2 weeks without pay and had to wait an additional 3 weeks. The owner of Premier staffing did not even apologize or care what that meant, nor did she offer any other jobs. She said there “just wasn’t that much work coming in, and she had to protect herself.”
While looking for work on my own during that period, I had to go 5 weeks without pay. I cannot tell you what that did to my credit and my life. Do not sign on with Premier staffing – they are not concerned about having a mutually beneficial business relationship with you. They don’t care whether you live or die, as long as she can keep her house and her condo that she bragged so much about.
