This establishment is very bad. I dealt with them once, many years ago, as a job seeker – and their overly condescending, cold and unfriendly manner turned me off immediately, so I did not pursue employment through them.
Recently, I was offered a temp job that fits my career goals through a company I interviewed directly with, twice – they told me I had the job for sure, just had to go through the temp agency.. turns out this was the temp agency. I figured I’d give them a shot again as I like the job offer. Well, I get there during business hours, shortly before 4pm, to pick up an “application packet” (they still do everything on paper – even in 2024!)… the door was locked and so I went to just grab a packet. A woman answers the door and somewhat rudely asks me “can I help you?”.
She then proceeds to tell me misinformation about their company policies, that left me thinking I was misled by the employer as to the way they do things. She also made a point of telling me there is “no guarantees, and companies can recommend people to them but THEY decide if THEY (personnel preference) want to hire them” – implying they have all the power in deciding whether to employ people in jobs the companies they’re recruiting for ALREADY want to hire and sent TO THEM.
So basically they sabotaged a good relationship that was being built by the company and I, and seemed to actively be obstructing me from proceeding to get the job I was already told was mine.
I called my contact at the company, and he clarified that there policy WAS NOT what these people told me it was, and that they should not be telling me they have all the authority in deciding to hire me. He apologized I had to deal with that and asked if I would just get through the paperwork with them, then I’d be working directly for the company and wouldn’t have to deal with this agency. Thing is, I would technically be employed by Personnel Preference – and given my experience with these folks I simply do not want to put myself under their thumb.
I said I am going to have to decline and that I would happily take a direct offer job through them, but that I am not comfortable working through this agency. At the end of the day, these people are essentially a barrier between myself (a well qualified candidate that could fill a position with this company) and the people they are supposed to be recruiting for.
I’m honestly surprised they are still in business, as their unprofessional bad attitude is not going to get them many candidates, I would think. But my guess is there are always enough folks desperate for decent employment to put up with them.
I would highly NOT RECOMMEND, and as an employer I would be highly wary of hiring through them. If my business ever grows to where I need employees I certainly will not be using them.
