A good-looking International Style building built on the corpse of the former Singer Building and oft-forgotten City Investing Building of New York, the former of which was purchased by US Steel and allowed to deteriorate before being destroyed by the same company to make room for this structure. At the time the Singer Building was not protected by the post-Penn Station-destruction institution, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. Those two — Penn Station and the Singer Building’s destruction mark the two greatest architectural urban tragedies in New York. Included is a photo of the gorgeous building under deconstruction in its death year, 1967.

I worked in this building many years ago. Now the basement of the building is all the restaurants, prescription eye wear store, medical holistic acupuncture and accidental and chiropractor place and a Starbucks. Mostly busy during lunch time and afternoons. One nice thing here is restrooms available during the business hours. Please ask the security guard to open for you.
