A friend of mine applied to the factory I was working at through Barron’s branch of Select Staff and we were both less than impressed. They were very unprofessional and frankly quite rude. If you’re curious about our experience I will elaborate.
My friend was largely on call for 3 months for any shift that needed an extra hand except for my shift that was sorely in need of more help. Now hear me out because this has a lot to say about the factory I worked at too. The shift I worked on had between 9 and 12 people at any given time and the ratio of men and women fluctuated. Unfortunately one of the women on my shift was a brown-noser to the plant manager and apparently because she was sucking up to him, reporting everything that anyone might be doing wrong, all women were just as “bitchy”.
From what my friend and I understand the women at Select may have agreed that we didn’t need anymore women on our shift despite needing more employees. I tried to argue that the plant manager was being sexist but unfortunately my word meant nothing. And that isn’t the only thing that shows how unprofessional Select is.
They seem to think that texting is an appropriate way of communication. Now I can understand if an employee states that they prefer to be texted when they’re needed at the job or something simple, but Select texted EVERYTHING unless my friend called them first and even then it was unlikely for them to hear anything unless they textend Select first. Not only did they text everything but they also acted very rudely towards my friend before firing them through text. No call, just a text. Allow me to elaborate on this as well.
My friend had been informed a few weeks in advance that they needed to come in to fill for a coworker who had requested the days off. Now, we’re not really sure what happened because the text conversations were very vague and uncertain on Select’s side. It ended with them pretty much saying to ask the shift lead if help was needed for those few days, which of course it was, just as my friend was clocking into work. The next day my friend was fired as Select tried to say they never said to go in nor to ask if help was needed.
When my friend told them that they had asked a supervisor and had been given the okay to work, Select accused my friend of “asking just anyone”. Anyone on my shift could tell you who our supervisor was and that is who my friend asked. Of course, Select refused to listen even after having screenshots of the previous conversations sent to them with the phone number of the Select employee clearly displayed above.
Over all, Barron’s branch of Select Staff is very unprofessional and rude. I personally would recommend going through a different agency like People Ready, (Spartan Staffing) Hudson Hiring, or any other branch of Select to save a lot of headache.
