My interview at Express Employment Professionals in Richmond was incredibly disappointing. I met with Tracy Dempsey, the owner, who kept me there for about two and a half hours, mostly talking about her own life. It felt more like a therapy session than a job interview. She went on about her personal, religious, and political views—none of which were appropriate or relevant.
They claim jobs are assigned on a first-call basis, but from what I saw, hiring depends on who the owner likes, not on qualifications or fairness. I wasn’t offered anything in the end, despite sitting through all of it.
I left feeling drained and disrespected. This did not feel like a professional staffing agency. It felt like a gatekeeping operation run by someone more interested in control than helping people. Easily the most frustrating interview I’ve ever had.

WHERE DO I BEGIN???? This is the best staffing agency on the planet!!! About 3 months ago I came to this office seeking work that was office related, specifically Human Resources or Accounting. Lisa was my recruiter. I was very intentional about where I wanted to be placed and I expressed all my needs/concerns. I gave her my resume and even threw in some old experience I had with the City of Richmond (that i didn’t think was useful), which Lisa advised that I should still use, to boost the resume I needed to produce in order to be placed at a job site. I I could feel that Lisa truly listened and believed in me. Within 2 weeks I was placed at Overaa Construction – starting off as a 3 day job. Three days turned into 7 weeks and then I was offered a permanent position with the company. This picture (attached) means so much to me because it was the day I was extended the offer. I am filled with so much gratitude and words cannot express how grateful I am! If you are intentional, highly motivated, and hold integrity within your work, this is the place you need to come to when you hit a dead end. Everyone here kept me encouraged throughout this process and honestly I don’t know where I would be without the whole team at this location 🙂 – special thanks to LISA! I am now going into the New Year with true confidence about job security.
