Dr. Devi is my husband’s neurologist but her wisdom and advice has helped more than her patient. In February of this year, I tripped on a rug in my apartment and broke the patella in my left knee and my right foot. It takes some kind of talent to do that! The fall was followed by knee surgery; finally I was well enough to start physical therapy and was getting around reasonably well with a rollator. When I mentioned the details of my recovery to Dr. Devi, she said, “Get rid of the rollator and start using hiking sticks.” I thought she was crazy but I listened to her. Now, less than four months after surgery, I am walking outside with no support. I never could have been so far along in recovery without following Dr. Devi’s advice. If she tells you to use hiking sticks, listen!

I made an appointment with Dr. Devi a year ago when I realized my memory and cognition issues were not normal. My family and I were concerned that I might be suffering from early-onset dementia. At 59, my menopause symptoms had been raging, unchecked for almost a decade. I had exhausted the shallow excuses of brain fog, senior moments, and lack of sleep to explain my embarrassing lapses in memory. Based upon a referral of my primary care physician (who described her as “outstanding”), I scheduled an appointment with Dr Devi. She and her colleagues then performed a thorough neurocognitive assessment and found that I was, in fact, experiencing significant memory and cognitive deficits. They also determined that I do not have dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. My cognitive impairment was, instead, likely due to menopause and the lack of estrogen and progesterone in my body for years, which my brain desperately needed to function. Dr. Devi is one of the wisest and most compassionate physicians I have ever met. She is sharp, straightforward, and she is a tireless advocate for her patients. Dr. Devi referred me to a specialist to have hormone replacement therapy. I also worked weekly with Dr. Devi and her cognition team to improve my working memory. After one year of taking hormones, my memory is back! I am a new person! I cannot overstate the importance of listening to your body and, especially if you are a woman experiencing menopause and memory loss, I encourage you to schedule a visit with Dr. Devi. She will help you navigate this stage of your life with dignity, grace, and success.

Dr. Gayatri Devi provided consistent helpful advice and warm caring moral support throughout a long 16 year period during which my wife Tina progressed through diagnosis of early-onset Alzheimer’s-like symptoms in March 2007 at age 53 through her hospice care and passing away in summer 2023 just before her 70th birthday. Throughout this time Dr. Devi helped make sure Tina had the right medications and medical care, but also gave very practical advice for structuring her home care, helping her remain in the community with home aides rather than in a nursing home where the risk of over-medication and earlier demise might be present. Even near the end she very helpfully asked what our plans were for the basics such as funeral home and burial, one of the many times she provided consistently practical advice for day-to-day living with this challenging condition. One of the most helpful things she did was provide enthusiastic encouragement to our lead home aide for the really stalwart job she did in keeping my wife in the best condition possible, even encouraging some “road trips” they took together over the years. Another highlight of Dr. Devi’s care was the calm supportive atmosphere of her office and staff, which usually included the presence of one or more large but very calm and friendly dogs.
