They reached out for a position that was falsely advertised. The job description was nothing like the work I was going to be doing during the contract (which I learned after beginning the position). But I’m not sure if that was because of them or the company they were representing.
Fortunately, I received an offer for another position that was objectively better (better pay, full-time, better benefits, remote, better PTO, etc.). When I informed the ConsultNet team, they became extremely unprofessional — even to the point of bullying. The account manager accused me of being dishonest and “not keeping my word”, even though the contract was at-will. As a side note, this accusation of dishonesty is ironic given their fraudulent posting. They were unprofessionally demanding, even to the point of appearing coercive, in trying to get me to stay.
It appears this is widespread at ConsultNet. Before accepting this fraudulent offer, I was in the interview process for another position ConsultNet was recruiting for. When I decided to accept the fraudulent posting, the account manager for the other position called me and was similarly pushy (although not bullying like the other one). This suggests to me that they have an extreme commissions structure that leads employees to be unprofessionally demanding — and at times downright bullies.
So while they do certain things well (i.e., preparing candidates for interviews, keeping candidates updated and communicating well with hiring managers), they become uncommonly unprofessional — and at times bullying — if you decide to not pursue their job position.
If you are an employer, I would recommend not using them lest their unprofessionalism taint your reputation. And if you are a candidate, beware of extreme unprofessionalism if you decide not to pursue their offer; also beware of potentially fraudulent postings.
The ConsultNet team needs a revised compensation structure that does not lead to such inappropriate behavior and/or internal training on how sell a job position without being unprofessional, coercive or bullying.
Reply: As the company alluded to in their reply, I use a pseudonym for my online reviews for privacy. And I’m not that interested in calling because what they do at this point does not affect me anymore. I just wanted to warn employers and candidates so that they don’t experience what I did with ConsultNet.
