I came to Dr Rios-steed for help managing my pain for ulcers, cysts, and kidney stones. Another doctor had prescribed me pain medication that helped me function, but instead of support or guidance, I felt judged.
Dr. Rios questioned my use of the medication and made assumptions without taking time to understand my medical history. Then, out of nowhere, she asked if I was being abused. That question felt inappropriate, especially since there was no context for it and no compassion behind it.
On top of that, instead of addressing my pain, she said it was anxiety and prescribed anxiety medication. I wasn’t there for mental health concerns—I was there because I was in pain. I left the appointment feeling unheard, dismissed, and disrespected.
I understand doctors have to be careful with medications, but patients also deserve to be listened to and treated like people—not problems. I hope this review encourages a more thoughtful and compassionate approach to care in the future. I will be moving to another dr.
