***Update February 11,2025. Submitted wage claim in June of 2022, and my claim is still processing***
This has been the most unprofessional and unorganized government agency I’ve ever had to deal with. When I call the office all I get is a representative that tells me to email the deputy in charge of my case because they can’t do anything themselves. I’ve emailed the deputy in charge of my case, Jessica Kaiser, several months ago and get no response. I’ve emailed another representative Elsa Saiz and have not received a response. I’ve also emailed the general Division of Labor Standards Enforcement email address a couple months ago and have not received a response. One of the representatives I spoke with over the phone recommended I go into the office physically, so I went into the office at 2031 Howe Avenue in Sacramento, CA yesterday and all the representative at the front desk could do was send another email to Jessica Kaiser.
It took over a year for me to get a conference date. The defendant signed and agreed to pay the penalties in February of 2023 with a due date of April 7, 2023. It is now halfway through December 2023, no payment has been made and my case has not moved foward to the “Order, Decision or Award by Settlement” step in the wage claim process.
No wonder companies continue to not pay their employees on time, they know the so called “public servants” at the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement don’t even follow their own policy and due dates so cases will likely get dropped and companies won’t have to pay the penalties. Absolutely zero accountability from this office.
For the people of California who do end up filing a wage claim, I encourage you all to follow through with the process to make the “public servants” at the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement do their job and to hold corporations accountable for withheld wages.
