Room and location were great, staff were very nice and friendly and served a great breakfast every morning and even helped me book onwards travel to Agra – just one thing left a sour taste in my mouth.
I came in person to check out the room before booking; I had stayed in a terrible place the night before, so I was determined to check out the room before accepting it. Checked out the place; there were 2 rooms available, and it was great. I asked what the rate was in person; it was coming out higher than on Booking.com, so I said I’ll just book it on Booking.com, as it was cheaper and I get a £25 reward in my wallet – they said no problem … and as I was doing it and got to the payment page, the rooms had miraculously “sold out.” I showed them my phone and he said, Don’t worry, just pay in person.” I had realised he had just cheated me out of my cheaper deal + Reward if I went via Booking.com
So I said, I’ll leave because it’s “full.” They made some story that someone had booked 1 room via Airbnb, so now both rooms on Booking.com were shown as “sold” out”—it didn’t make sense.
Then he made 1 room available on Booking.com, and surprise surprise, the room rate is higher than before, and there is no more reward. (i dont think they have any say in the reward part but I assume it gone since the homestay had only 1 room left to book.)
After some back and fourth, I negotiated a lower price than asking (but higher than what was originally on booking.com + £25 reward in wallet)
It just all felt a bit sneaky – I understand the hustle but it just left a sour taste.
