Marie and I have been members of this church for about fifteen years, and we absolutely love it. The people are welcoming, intelligent, and liberal—not such an easy combination to find in Sarasota. Rev. Roger Fritts gives wonderful sermons. It is an extremely active church, with something going on almost every day. One of our favorite activities is the Serendipity Service Auction. People donate everything from gourmet home-cooked dinners, to specialized tours to stays in New York apartments and western ski condos. The silent auction takes place in one hour after church, and the fun goes on for months afterward. We also like the active Social Justice committee, which is funding a homeless residence, packing and delivering backpacks full of food to children, and supporting efforts to secure justice for farm workers, among many other worthwhile endeavors. The Sunday morning Forum is really important to us. Speakers present on political, medical, and philosophical issues to environmental, criminal justice and many other topics, followed by lively and thought-provoking discussions. For children and youth, there is an active religious education program. Drop by and prepare to have your expectations exceeded.
