Job Brief

The Record Librarian is responsible for administering and maintaining libraries or collections of information, ensuring public and private access to various materials, including books, periodicals, recordings, films, and databases. This role requires a keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills to effectively manage the acquisition, cataloging, and circulation of library materials. The ideal candidate will possess experience in user services, assisting patrons in locating information, providing instruction on resource access, and operating library media equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain library collections, ensuring accurate cataloging and circulation of materials.
  • Acquire new resources by evaluating and selecting books, periodicals, recordings, and digital content.
  • Provide instruction and assistance to patrons on locating and utilizing library resources and databases.
  • Organize and maintain library materials to ensure easy access and retrieval for users.
  • Operate and maintain library media equipment, including audiovisual systems and computer workstations.
  • Develop and implement library programs and services to enhance user engagement and information literacy.
  • Collaborate with staff to promote library resources and services through outreach initiatives.
  • Conduct regular assessments of collection needs and make recommendations for improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
  • Experience working in library or information management environments.
  • Proficiency in library management systems and cataloging standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective patron interaction.
  • Ability to operate various media equipment and technology used in libraries.
  • Knowledge of information retrieval techniques and research methodologies.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.
  • Familiarity with digital libraries and online resource management is a plus.
