I strongly recommend not risking your career life by working here, you will most likely end up with a really bad reference for your prospective employers. Even though I enjoyed working with children in Springfield and Ozark area, and I liked the flexible schedule, I suffered from tremendous amount of stress and pressure due to the unprofessional way of handling issues.
I was brand new to US school education system and was obviously expecting support and help from Penmac staff once I was facing an issue, but obviously that was a good reason for them and a few schools to mistreat me. They barely provided assistance or good training at the beginning, and whenever I was encountering problems because I wasn’t familiar with the system or a specific school’s policies or sometimes without any reason, they were calling me with threats and false accusations which led to extreme amount of anxiety and frustration while performing my work duties. Each day, I was expecting them to call accusing me of something new. They were also repeatedly blocking my Frontline not letting me choose the schools I was feeling safe in, and I had to firmly confront them asking to unblock my account by taking the issue to higher level management.
So as you can see diversity receives no value in this company, and it heavily works to your disadvantage if you are different in any way. In addition, based on my personal experience, some schools can easily make false accusations only because they don’t like your identity instead of working with you and guiding you in the right direction, and Penmac in response supports them without asking a question or without asking for evidence. And if you ask for proof in case of false accusations, they refuse to provide such proof or refuse any written communication but just say that they don’t want you in their school which is heartbreaking and painful. This harms first of all the diverse population, students and parents in Springfield area or elsewhere, and secondly the entire community suffers as a result since diversity promotes quality of life and learning. And this misbehaving might not finish even after you stop working for the company, they have the potential of providing negative reference to your prospective employers which is illegal but can happen and should surely be followed up with legal action.
Also, I need to mention that as I got to know the other substitutes local to the area, they shared how much they were suffering from the unprofessional behavior of the staff, and the fact that substitutes were even avoiding calling the office due to the high amount of hateful comments and words they were receiving. If you can, work directly with schools because there are some schools which are really welcoming and supportive and they like to work with you because Penmac can’t handle a safe and welcoming work environment at all whether for locals or outsiders. Now sadly, I feel relieved that I stopped working for this company since they have a long way to professionalism mainly because they reject taking constructive feedback and refuse valuing their employees, the substitutes.
